Singapore — The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has awarded the tender for a landmark wellness destination at Marina South to Therme Group, a global developer of integrated well-being resorts. The S$1 billion project will transform a four-hectare waterfront site into Therme Singapore, set to open by 2030.
Heading the local subsidiary is Mah Bow Tan, former Singapore Minister for National Development, who now serves as Chairman of Therme Group Asia Pacific. Known for his instrumental role in shaping Singapore’s urban planning and housing landscape during his ministerial tenure, Mah’s leadership underscores Therme’s commitment to aligning wellness, sustainability, and city-building in Asia.
The development will feature a wide range of facilities — from thermal pools and saunas to family-friendly attractions and immersive well-being experiences. It is expected to welcome around two million visitors annually, with roughly half anticipated from overseas, strengthening Singapore’s global tourism and lifestyle appeal.
This marks Therme Group’s first major venture in Asia, expanding from its European strongholds. The Vienna-headquartered company is behind some of the world’s most successful wellness destinations, including Therme Bucharest and Therme Erding in Germany — both celebrated for their cutting-edge sustainability systems and resort-scale architecture. Upcoming projects in Manchester, Ontario, and Dubai continue to cement Therme’s reputation for reimagining wellness as essential public infrastructure.

Driven by the belief that “well-being should be accessible to all,” Therme integrates nature, technology, and culture to promote holistic urban lifestyles. With Mah Bow Tan at the helm, the Singapore project is poised to set a new global benchmark — redefining wellness tourism while enhancing Marina South’s identity as a vibrant waterfront district.
